Your Challenge 
The NRC Aerospace Portfolio focuses on advancing aerospace research and technology developments in the core areas of aerodynamics, flight research, gas turbines, structures and materials, and manufacturing. We conduct research and technology development (R&TD) across the full spectrum of issues related to the design, manufacture, qualification, performance, use and maintenance of air vehicles. This work covers all of the major concerns in aerospace - cost, weight, safety, human factors and environmental footprint. 
The primary responsibility of the NDE Research Officer (RO) is to support the goals of NRC and the Portfolio through developing, implementing, and managing industry-backed research activities on NDE to enhance the performance and integrity assessment of aerospace structures, including both new and aged structures. 
The RO works in a team environment with researchers and technical experts in world-class facilities. The RO provides inputs into the overall direction and research priorities for the NRC programs. Activities also include the development of proposals for new research initiatives, business development, project management, and provides service to NRC clients.  
Working for NRC Aerospace in the Structural Integrity group, the incumbent will be complimented by the advancement of NDE technologies along various technical readiness levels and the provision of technical leadership to such NDE research activities.
Key activities include: Development of advanced NDE techniques, NDE testing of aerospace materials and structures, NDE reliability assessment, Supporting contract initiatives, Supervision responsibilities, Participating in meetings, Writing of technical reports, Presentation at conferences 

Screening Criteria 
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates. 

Ph.D. degree from a recognised university in Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science or other relevant field with specialisation in Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE). 

Significant experience in the full spectrum of NDE research activities including identification of research requirements, proposal writing, project management, data production and analysis, and reporting through written documentation, presentations and publishing. 
Extensive experience in at least one of the following techniques, including experimental and analytical methods associated with their application: ultrasonic, eddy current, infrared thermography or radiography methods. 
Significant experience in experimental design and analysis including data collection and statistical analysis, overseeing data production, and ensuring data quality. 
Basic experience with NDE as related to lifing methodologies, metallic, composite and hybrid materials, repair development and challenges with existing and next generation of aircraft systems (airframe and engines).

A candidate with a Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering may be considered if it is demonstrated through numerous publications including papers in prestigious journals of NDE research expertise.
